You’ve probably already turned on your air conditioner once this year, but soon it’ll be on daily. During the summer, we rely on our air conditioners almost around the clock for cooling. These systems will be doing a lot of work for you this year – take good care of your air conditioner to improve its performance and help it run smoothly.
Inspect your system regularly
Your springtime preventative maintenance tune-up isn’t the only time you should be inspecting your cooling system. Periodically throughout the summer, check your equipment to make sure it’s in good working order. In the summertime, outdoor condenser units can become covered with grass clippings, and summer storms can send debris down on the equipment – these items can block airflow which causes your system to struggle, and result in damage.
Change your air filter
Most high-efficiency air filters need changing every three to six months. In the summertime, your system is running almost constantly – your filter is working overtime, and may need to be changed more frequently when it’s used so heavily. Check your filter about once per month in the summer, and replace it sooner if you find it necessary.
Don’t run a broken system
If your air conditioner is having trouble operating properly, it’s a good idea to turn it off and call for air conditioner repair. Strange operating noises, lack of airflow – these issues need to be resolved right away. Continuing to operate your air conditioning system after you notice performance issues can cause more damage to the system. This may result in more expensive repair work, or even damage your system to the point of replacement.
If you experience performance issues with your air conditioning system this summer, call Nelson Comfort for quick repair service. Our NATE-certified technicians are on-hand to help you solve your cooling system problems.
