Fall is a great time to check all of your HVAC equipment and run through a quick checklist of maintenance. As the days become cooler in Cincinnati, you can cut down on the use of your AC and prepare to turn on your heat in the coming months.

  1. Clean Air Filters

Clean your air filters to keep your system running efficiently. Clogged air filter keep air from flowing properly and force your system to work harder. Dirty air filters cause extra strain on parts which leads to more frequent breakdowns and repairs. Set a reminder to change your air filters according to the manufactures suggestion. Also consider purchasing high efficiency air filters that capture smaller particles. These air filters will keep your family healthy and keep your system running at peak performance.

  1. Clear Debris from AC and Heating System

Clear away any debris around your outdoor AC unit. Make sure there are no leaves, dirt, debris or pollen on the unit. Keeping your system free of debris will ensure your AC will work effectively for a long time. Remember to keep at least two feet of space free on all sides of the unit. This will allow for maximum air flow and a clean running system. Clear away any dust and debris from indoor equipment as well.

  1. Clean Your Registers

Clean dust and debris from your registers. Keeping your registers clean will ensure your system is running at optimal efficiency.  In order to clean registers first turn off the power connected to your HVAC unit. Use a brush to clean the grates thoroughly and vacuum the ducts as much as possible. Remember to clean the grilles in your ceiling as well.

  1. Check for Unusual Noises

Fall is a good time to check for any unusual noises associated with your HVAC system. Noises in your system can be related to many issues. You may have debris in the vents, register blockage or loose bolts on your registers or furnace. If you hear odd noises that you are unable to identify, contact Nelson Comfort and let our HVAC technicians pinpoint any concerns.

  1. Call an HVAC Professional
