Having Problems with Your Cincinnati HVAC Fan?

family-footer

Fans are an essential component of your heating and cooling systems. Blower fans move conditioned air into your Cincinnati home via duct work to supply the heated or cooled air you need. If the fans are not operating correctly, your system won’t be effective in keeping your home comfortable. Below are a few common fan problems we treat, and some troubleshooting tips to try before you call us.

My HVAC Fan Won’t Turn On

If your blower fan won’t turn on, your indoor spaces won’t receive the heating or cooling generated by your HVAC system, because they’ll be no force pushing the conditioned air through your duct work. To troubleshoot:

• Go to your thermostat and turn the heating or cooling system on; make sure the temperature is set appropriately to trigger start-up.
• If your system won’t turn on along with the blower, make sure no power switches have been turned to off and check your breakers to ensure they haven’t been tripped.

A blower fan which won’t turn on can be a sign of various problems, such as faulty capacitors, broken fan belts, or even a malfunctioning blower motor.

My HVAC Fan Won’t Turn Off

A fan that continues to run at all times continues to consume energy at all times. While running your HVAC fan is often ideal, not being able to turn it off when you want generates great energy waste and can be an indicator of other system issues. Troubleshoot an HVAC fan which won’t turn off by:

• Make sure the fan switch on your thermostat is not set to “on”.
• Use your thermostat to turn off your heating and cooling systems, which should trigger the fan to shut off.

If these steps do not shut the fan off, there could be an issue with the thermostat, the wiring to the system, or the blower’s relay/limit switch. These issues can be easily diagnosed and corrected by an HVAC professional.
