Dusty Home? Filters, Humidifiers & Ducts May be the Cause
Do you ever feel that as soon as you are done dusting, all the surfaces in your home need dusted again? This can be a common problem we see with our customers here at Nelson Comfort. This does not necessarily mean you are keeping a dirty house. This means that dust is not being created more, but that dust is not being effectively removed from your home. Many people don’t realize that this problem can be contributed to many factors, and that is what we are going to talk about today. How do filters, humidifiers and ducts contribute to the dust in my house?
Filters, Humidifiers and Ducts – Problem 1 HVAC Filter Quality
If your home is feeling dusty, changing your filters can only help. Your filters are supposed to be replaced every few months to ensure they are working effectively. If your filter is not working efficiently or is dirty it is simply not catching dust, and that dust is recirculated into your home. This could be a major cause of dust buildup. To prevent this, we recommend that you buy a new filter every couple of months and make sure you are cleaning and changing those filters. When buying a new filter also make sure that it has a good MERV rating to ensure high quality. The better-quality filter, and the cleaner you keep your HVAC filters, the better-quality air and less dust you can expect.
Problem 2 Humidity
One big step in eliminating dust is to make sure the air that comes into your home is clean. Humidity can be a big factor in dust control. The dryer the air in your home, the more dust there is. It is important to find a balance with the humidity in your home to ensure there is no dust buildup. If your home is too humid or dry this can be the cause of the excess dust being in your home. Our suggestion would be to invest in a humidifier to ensure you minimize dust and find a balance in your home.
Problem 3 Leaky Ducts
Leaking ducts are another issue that can cause dust problems in your home. When your ducts leak, this allows air to escape and enter without passing through filters. This is a major cause that leads to dust buildup and this also makes your system work a lot harder. Your airducts are meant to carry air to proper rooms and when there is a leak, they can be trapping and distributing dusty air into these rooms in your home. Our first piece of advice is to find if you have any leaks in your duct system. If so, we recommend contacting a professional to get these sealed immediately. Nelson Comfort is here to help. Be sure to seal up and clean your ducts to boost their performance and eliminate leaks.
Nelson Comfort is here to help you with whatever may be causing the dust buildup in your home. Whether that be poor air filter quality, leaky ducts, or humidity issues, we have trained professionals who can help you. We are here to make your home comfortable and clean so call Nelson Comfort today!
