My Cincinnati Geothermal System Won’t Cool

Why won’t my geothermal system cool my home?

Air filter problems

If you are suffering from no cooling or low cooling in your home or business, the system’s air filter may be to blame. If your air filter becomes clogged, air will not be able to flow adequately through the system.

Air flow is essential to the heat transfer process by which heat pumps cool your interior spaces. The system’s air flow must be sufficient for the heat pump to transfer warm air from inside to below ground. When air filters become loaded with contaminants, air volume can be restricted so much that your heat pump is incapable of transferring heat, resulting in no cooling.

Compressor problems

In some cases, a lack of cooling is caused by a compressor malfunction. The geothermal heat pump’s compressor is responsible for pressurizing the coolant within the system; if the compressor isn’t working properly, it will inhibit heat transfer.

System leaks

No or low cooling can also be caused by a leak within your system, within your heat pump or your ground loop. If coolant escapes the closed system, it will negatively impact the heat transfer process and your geothermal system’s ability to cool your home or business.
