A Basic Inspection of Your HVAC System Prolongs Life

nsplash

If you have an HVAC system, you want it to function properly. But even if you take all the necessary precautions with your HVAC system, sometimes it may not perform right. We understand it can be frustrating, especially with the Cincinnati heat. If you’re ever worried about system performance, know we can help. Also, there are simple steps you can take to perform a basic inspection of your HVAC system on your own time.

Check Thermostat Function

Do you notice your thermostat is slow to respond to commands? That’s one way of recognizing something may be wrong in your home. Next time you adjust the temperature, pay attention to the speed of a response. If your thermostat responds quickly, you don’t need to worry. If it’s more sluggish, there may be an underlying reason the thermostat is slow.

Listen for Weird Noises

When your HVAC system kicks on, does it make out of the ordinary noises? If it does, it may be time to have someone come out to inspect your system. You know the normal sounds your system makes. If it sounds different, it’s a sign something is wrong. Just by listening for weird noises, you’re doing enough to prevent any system failures as long as you act quickly.

Clean Your Air Filters

If you’re looking for a quick fix to a sluggish system, we recommend checking your air filters. If your filter is dirty, it’s a sign it’s time to change them. There’s no set timeframe that air filters last. However, the pack will let you know how often to swap them. Normally, it’s every 90 days they need changed.

Check for Clogs

A clogged HVAC system can spell disaster. Clogs slow down your system. If your HVAC system is slow to respond, check to see if there are any clogs. Use a vacuum to suck out any debris. After doing this, you should notice an uptick in system performance.

Remove Dirt Around System

You may think dirt is harmless, but it can wreak havoc on your HVAC system. Unfortunately, because HVAC systems are based outside, they’re likely near dirt and other debris. To prevent a system slow down, periodically remove dirt and debris from the area surrounding your HVAC system. This prevents dirt and debris getting sucked into the system, which can slow it down.

Vacuum Coils

You want an efficient HVAC. Part of that comes by staying on top of regular maintenance. The other part comes from taking steps on your own to ensure peak performance. The coils in your HVAC system help improve the efficiency of your system. To help improve efficiency, vacuum the coils of your HVAC system from time to time. By vacuuming the coils, you’re getting rid of any debris that prevents cooling to happen.

When your HVAC system goes down, it’s frustrating. You can do a basic inspection of your HVAC system on your own to prevent downtime with your HVAC system. Remember, your inspections shouldn’t replace maintenance checks. Instead, use it a bridge between twice a year checks. If it constantly happens, contact Nelson Comfort for all your heating and cooling needs!
